Why are there PMP requirements?

The first reason is that project management is a serious job that requires communication with many stakeholders throughout the project. Project managers need to be aware of communication, attitude, and how to manage expectations. Project delivery could be delayed or canceled. A solid track record in project management is a prerequisite for PMP certification.

Project management knowledge is the second reason PMP certification is required. To pass the PMP certification exam, a project manager must be proficient in 10 knowledge areas. These knowledge areas will be tested in five different project management processes groups. A PMP candidate must score at least a certain level in these project management process groups to pass the PMP certification exam.
These two factors are why PMP education and PMP experience requirements are required for the PMP exam. PMP experience will prove that the PMP candidate has sufficient soft skills to take the PMP exam. PMP education requirements will prove that the PMP candidate has sufficient theoretical background to manage a project.

This doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be a project manager. You can also be a supervisor for a junior tea.
